COIMBATORE: A 21-year-old student of a university on the outskirts of Coimbatore went missing on Friday after messaging her father not to look for her.
Police said the student had messaged her father from her mobile phone that she had an “incurable, serious illness” and that she did not want to cause him any more problems. She also told him that she was leaving home and asked them not look for her. To her hostel warden, the girl said she was ill and that she was on her way to meet her father at the Ukkadam bus station.
Neither the girl’s parents and friends nor the college authorities have since been able to get in touch with her. Her phone has remained switched off, the Karunya Nagar police told Express.
They have sought the victim’s call logs and are investigating her disappearance. A missing person’s was registered after the girl’s father, who is working with the BSNL in Kerala, approached the police with a complaint on Saturday night.
The girl's father had also visited the university in search of his daughter. Speaking to Express, he said he suspects something more sinister than what the police suggest could have happened. The family was not aware of any serious illness the girl was suffering from. “We think she might have been kidnapped and forced to send the message to us. Neither her friends nor the college authorities have any information about her whereabouts,” he said.
