PUDUCHERRY: AAP leader R Ravi Srinivasan, who was earlier arrested under Section 66(1) of IT Act after a complaint filed by Karthi Chidambaram, son of Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, felt elated after the apex court scrapped Section 66(A) of IT act on Tuesday.
"I am relieved and happy that the case against me has technically come to an end," he said.
On October 31, 2012, Ravi, an industrialist who had posted a tweet calling the minister's son 'corrupt' by citing reports in the media, was charged with under section 66(A) for attempting to tarnish the image of Karthi.
He had tweeted that Karthi Chidambaram had amassed more wealth than Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra. An infuriated Karthi faxed a complaint to Puducherry police and a case was registered. He was arrested in the early morning.
Now the freedom of speech had been restored, said Ravi. Social media is the greatest tool for common people to express their views and share it, but there should be restraint, he said.
"However, I am against people who abuse and attack people or run malicious campaign on the social media," he said.
He continues to be active and his twitter handle saw an increase in followers from 16 (including eight relatives) to more than 2500.
