VELLORE: Members of the Vellore unit of the Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Post Graduate Teachers’ Association on Monday alleged that their former president V Manivasan was illegally collecting monthly subscription from government teachers.

In a petition submitted to senior police officials, district president of the association D Karthikeyan said Manivasan was removed from the post in 2011 and that the members even cancelled the registration of (no 160/80) association. “It (cancellation of the association registration) was published in the Government Gazette in January 2013,” he added.

After that, the association was re-registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975 and a new number (63/2012) obtained. Though Manivasan approached the Madurai bench of Madras High Court against his removal, the court dismissed his petition, Karthikeyan claimed.

Nonetheless, Manivasan had been misusing the association’s name and collecting monthly subscription from several government school teachers and also publishing monthly magazines.

“He had illegally collected around Rs 2 to Rs 3 lakh from the teachers by misusing the association’s name. Despite court orders, he continues to use the association’s name,” said Gopinathan, a member.

He further said that the association members in other districts were filing cases against Manivasan in their respective areas.
