NAMAKKAL :Hardly a day after remanding Yuvaraj, the prime accused in the sensational murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj, in judicial custody, a local court here on Monday granted permission to the CB-CID officials to keep him in their custody for the next five days.
Chief Judicial Magistrate S Malarmathi turned down a plea for 15-day custody of Yuvaraj, as sought by the investigating agency and granted it five days to grill him over the heinous crime he is alleged to have committed.
Sources said the CJM directed the CB-CID officials to produce Yuvaraj before the court at 2 pm on 17 October, when the custody period ends.
Earlier, advocate Krishnan, appearing for Yuvaraj, the founder of Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai, had objected to the CB-CID’s plea for 15 days of police custody to hold interrogations. After hearing the arguments of both parties, the judge issued the order at 2 pm.
The ‘Kongu Musketeer’, who had been on the run for 109 days since the gruesome murder of Gokulraj came to light on 24 June this year, was produced before the court amid tight security.
A large contingent of police was deployed in the court premises and the Sub-jail in Namakkal town from where he was ferried.
After obtaining custody of Yuvaraj, the CB-CID took him to their unit office located on Namakkal-Salem Road, where he was quizzed by officials, sources said.
