NAMAKKAL: With CB-CID seeking more time to complete interrogations in connection with the sensational murder of Dalit youth Gokulraj and a court extending police custody of the prime accused Yuvaraj by two more days, sources say that Yuvaraj has confessed to the crime of murdering Gokulraj.
The agency produced Yuvaraj, the founder of Dheeran Chinnamalai Gounder Peravai, before the CJM court on Saturday as the 5-day custody granted earlier ended at 2 pm.
The investigating officer (IO) of the Gokulraj murder case and Additional SP of CB-CID, G Stalin, submitted an application seeking five more days of custody stating that the cellphone used by Swathi, a key witness, had to be retrieved from Bangalore where it was concealed by Yuvaraj.
However, R Krishnan, appearing for the accused, objected to granting any further custody of his client since the cops have had enough time to carry out their investigations.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, CJM S Malarmathi granted two more days of custody of Yuvaraj to the cops.
Meanwhile, sources said that Yuvaraj has confessed to having committed the crime during interrogations. Contrary to his earlier statements denying his role in the murder of Gokulraj in his messages circulated through social media and interviews given to Tamil TV channels, he admitted that he abducted Gokulraj from the premises of the Sri Arthanareeshwarar Temple atop a hillock in Thiruchengode when he was with a caste-Hindu girl, Swathi, and murdered him before dumping the body on the railway track in Pallipalayam on June 23.
“Yuvaraj has confessed to the crime during interrogations,” a source in the investigating agency said.
The sleuths of CB-CID on Friday seized two vehicles used for abducting Gokulraj based on the information given by Yuvaraj during interrogations. Moreover, the cops have gathered some more incriminating evidences to pin him.
Sources said that he narrated the sequence of events beginning with the abduction of the youth, taking him to Sankagiri before murdering him at Pallipalayam and dumping the body on the tracks.
The sleuths of CB-CID were understood to have corroborated the confession statements given by two of his accomplices, Shankar and Kumar Sivakumar during the interrogations. Both revealed the events leading to the murder of Gokulraj when grilled by the local police earlier, so0urces noted.
