Tea Stall Owner Tries to Immolate Self

COIMBATORE:A 59-year-old man, who was running a tea stall in front of the office housing the Commercial Taxes Department, doused himself with kerosene and threatened suicide, after officials began clearing out a portion of the stall, which they claimed was an encroachment. G Selvakumar from NSR Street, RS Puram, had got a stay order from the Madras High Court against his shop being taken away from him. There had been a dispute between Selvakumar and officials in the Commercial Taxes Department. Officials had cleared away a portion of the shop where chairs and tables were kept, when Selvakumar doused himself with kerosene. Race Course police apprehended the man and took him to the station.
