On-train Plaint Filing Re-railed

CHENNAI:Following a recent incident where a woman doctor travelling to Chennai couldn’t register a theft complaint on the train, the State’s Government Railway Police (GRP) re-formalised the existing system at a function at Chennai Egmore railway station on Friday.

GRP officials said, passengers need not break their journey at a station to register a complaint. Instead, they could call the helpline number 99625 00500 or 1322 and the security personnel travelling on the train would contact them at their seat. After taking note of the complaint, the security person would formalise the complaint by handing over a signed Community Service Register (CSR) slip to the aggrieved passenger.

“The passenger can then file an FIR using the receipt,” said Superintendent of Railway Police P Vijaykumar.  This system existed for a while, but its improper implementation at all locations came to light recently when a passenger from Trichy to Chennai had to get down at Villupuram to register her complaint.  “With this mobile CSR system, there will be no necessity to break the journey,” said Seema Agarwal, IG, GRP.

She added that at least one security guard would be on each train throughout the journey.  At a press briefing, Vijaykumar said GRP and RPF were working in close coordination to increase security on trains.
