Three Held for Conning Engg Aspirants

VELLORE: Three youths have been arrested for falsely promising several aspirants admission to engineering courses in a deemed university in Vellore.

The District Police received a complaint from  the educational institution stating that there were five fake websites that had been created in the institution’s name and that certain individuals were falsely promising aspirants admission to engineering courses.   Superintendent of Police of Vellore, P K Senthil Kumari, directed the Detection of Crime Branch.

The inquiry led to the arrest of three youths, who were later identified as Nagarjan of Andhra Pradesh, Ajay Kumar and Sunil Kumar of Bihar, all aged between 24 and 25 years. The trio had reportedly cheated several of their victims of several lakhs of rupees.  “Despite a few aspirants confronting them that the admission to the institution was closed, the trio continued to assert that they can get them the seat in their choice of courses,” said a police official.

“They were picked up from different places in Chennai. The police team has seized laptops, eight cell phones, fake IDs and visiting cards,” the police official added.
