MADURAI : The Madurai Bench of the Madras HC ordered a DNA test to find out whether a woman aged 75 and her alleged grandson are blood relatives. The matter pertains to a motor accident claims appeal pending before the court for the last 18 years. Since the youth lost both his parents, the ‘grandparent’ DNA test was directed to be conducted.
The petitioner, Nagammal of Manapparai in Tiruchy, said her son Arumugam died in an accident on October 13, 1997.
She, along with two other sons, filed a claims before the tribunal concerned in 1998. One Jeyamani, claiming to be Arumugam’s wife, filed a petition along with her minor son Balasubramanian. In its common order on November 28, 2000, the tribunal held that Jeyamani was the victim’s wife and awarded `3.95 lakh to the duo and `75,000 to Nagammal.
