CHENNAI: Giving a fillip to infrastructure development, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday laid the foundation stones for a series of road projects to the tune of over Rs 1000 Crores across Tamil Nadu including three flyovers at Koyambedu, Velachery and Medavakkam to decongest traffic in the city.
While a flyover would be constructed between the entrance of Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu and Kaliamman Temple Road Junction at a cost of Rs 93.50 crore, a new flyover is coming up near the Vijaynagar Bus Terminus in Velachery at an outlay of Rs 108 crore, an official release here said.
Another flyover would be constructed at Medavakkam in Kanchipuram district at a cost of Rs 146.41 Crore.
Similarly, Railway Over Bridges would be constructed at Sevvaipettai in Tiruvallur district, Vellore, Coimbatore and Dindigul districts to eliminate Railway Level Crossings.
In total, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones for five bridges, five Rail Over Bridges, four flyovers and four road works at a cost of Rs 1002 Crore, the statement added.
This apart, Jayalalithaa inaugurated 42 bridges, two Rail Over Bridges and seven buildings constructed at Rs 599.95 crore in different parts of Tamil Nadu.
She also inaugurated a Rs 75.47 crore bridge across Coleroon river at Srirangam through video conferencing. It would benefit thousands of people visiting Tiruchirappalli City from Namakkal, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Chennai, besides tourists and pilgrims.
The projects inaugurated on Sunday include a four-way bridge across Palar River on East Coast Road in Kanchipuram district, Ennore Port Link Road in Tiruvallur district, bridges and roads in Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Karur, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts, Integrated Chief Engineer’s Office at Saidapet in Chennai, buildings in Kanchipuram, Thanjavur, Thoothukudi, Villupuram and Salem districts.
Highways and Minor Ports Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami, Chief Secretary K Gnanadesikan and senior Government officials were present on the occasion.
