NAMAKKAL:In a bid to tap the tourism potential of the Kolli hills, the Forest Department has initiated measures to promote eco-tourism even while ensuring better facilities for tourists.

“We have constructed two eco-huts near the famous Arapaleeshwarar Temple in Kolli hills. These huts will be rented out to tourists, who want to spend time in this pristine area, enjoying the cool weather, breezy winds and the aroma of naturally grown herbs,” Forest Ranger A Kanagarathinam told Express.

A large number of people visit the famous Agaya Ganga falls situated close to the Arapaleeshwarar Temple.

“Eco-huts would be ideal for them during their stay here,” Kanagarathinam added.

An interpretation centre is also under construction in the area. The centre will help visitors to understand the mysteries of nature, besides the features of the Kolli hills.

Located 60 km away from Namakkal town, the Agaya Ganga falls will be abound with waters during the season between September and January.

Kanagarathinam informed that sanitation facilities were being improved and toilet construction was also on.

A tourist van service from Namakkal town to the hills is also on the anvil.

Considered as one of the hill stations still untouched by development projects and unscrupulous mining of natural resources, the hills offer a treat to eyes and calms the soul of the tourists.

Located about 1,300 metres above the sea level in the Eastern Ghats, the hills is about 56 km from Namakkal. To reach the place, tourists have to take an enduring journey passing through 70 hairpin bends.
