PUDUCHERRY: Tension prevailed at Vanarapet area following explosions in the house of a labourer past midnight today. No one was hurt in the incident , though the roof tiles were broken  when  the  explosive substance  landed on the tiled façade of the house .

According to police two explosions were heard from the house of Palani, a painter while he was consuming liquor with five other persons in the house. Among them two had previous cases of involvement of crime which includes a hurt case and theft case. Others including Palani did not have any criminal background.

Hearing the news a police team led by Senior Superintendent of  Police V J Chandran  and circle Inspector M Ganesh rushed there and inspected the house where no one was found.  The explosive substance from crackers containing iron pallets has been wrapped in jute case and then in plastic paper and hurled.

Suspecting that some miscreants might have hurled the explosive  to kill  one or more of the six men ,police  conducted a check of the houses in that area to ensure that bombs were not hidden there  to ensure that no untoward incidents happened  during elections.   Police rounded up two persons in the areas and are being interrogated.  The Investigation team is trying to interrogate the four others who were drinking in the house and suspect that two of them could have left Puducherry .

The incident coming ahead of the Assembly elections  has sent fear of bomb culture returning to Puducherry once again. Puducherry had earlier experienced  several incidents in the past when  murders have been committed by hurling Bombs.
