PUDUCHERRY: The Congress-DMK alliance will in no way be affected because of the DMDK not joining the coalition in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, said former Union Minster and AICC general secretary V Narayanasamy

He was speaking to reporters after welcoming Ramesh, a former councilor from Ariyur, to the party here on Sunday.

An ardent supporter of Chief Minister N Rangasamy and an All India N R Congress functionary, Ramesh quit the party and joined the congress party along with his supporters today. PCC president A Namassivayam, Leader of Opposition V Vaithilingam and others were present at the party office.

Narayanasamy said that people expected Vijayakanth’s DMDK to join the Congress-DMK front, but DMDK joined the Peoples Welfare Alliance, which is an ‘opportunistic' front.

Stating that the DMK-Congress coalition will not be affected because of the DMDK joining the PWA, the AICC general secretary said the Congress-DMK combine would capture power both in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

He said N Rangasamy led AINRC government had failed on all fronts due to its policies, misrule and corruption.

“It failed miserably on the law and order front and the crimes against women and children are on the increase.”

“People are dissatisfied with the ruling party as it fulfill their expectations and are now looking towards the Congress-DMK combine,” he said and added the alliance will earn comfortable victory in the assembly polls with people’s support.

Alleging that Rangasamy himself is facing crisis and legislators had revolted against because of the autocratic style of functioning, he said functionaries from his party are quitting and joining the Congress.

Congress sources hinted that a few more top AINRC leaders, including a minister, are also keen on joining the party, which may happen in a few days time

It may be noted that AINRC MLA, Angalane, joined the Congress a few days back. The ruling AINRC party functionaries S Mohan, Pachaiyappan (from Indira Nagar) and Ratnavel (Dharmpuri) also joined the Congress in the month of February.

Former Pattali Makkal Katchi MLA, R K R Anantharaman, along with his followers, joined the Indian National Congress, last month. It may be noted that R K R Aanatharaman, a close relative of PMK chief Dr Ramadoss, had unsuccessfully contested last Lok Sabha elections on a PMK ticket in Puducherry.

It may be recalled that Chief Minister N Rangasamy, after quitting the Congress party, formed the AINRC just a month before the Assembly polls in 2011. Several leaders from other parties joined the then newly formed AINRC with the hope of better political future.
