PUDUCHERRY: Charging rampant distribution of money by certain political parties, Peoples Welfare alliance has appealed to the Chief election commissioner to conduct re-poll in all the 30 assembly constituencies of the Union Territory.

Convenor of the PWA and CPI State secretary, R Viswanathan told reporters that PWA has written to the Chief election Commissioner about the polls held here violating all norms of the Election Commission of India and thwarting all democratic practices.

He alleged that cash was distributed to the  voters to induce them by political parties, Congress, NR Congress, AIADMK. DMK and BJP.

Stating that the election commission concentrated on peaceful election, Viswanathan said the ECI and election department failed to prevent cash for vote in all constituencies of Puducherry.

“Many complaints were lodged through whatsapp toll free and electronic media to the electoral and returning officers on May 14, 15, 16. But no action has been taken against the above political parties’ activists”.

“The above above political parties gave Rs 500 to Rs 2000 per votes along with token for Rs 1000 for provision stores”.

“This disbursal of cash polluted the free and fair election conducted in almost all constituencies of the UT”.

The petition said: Public lost faith in the free and fair election conducted by the Commission. There we urge the Commission to impound the results of all the constituencies and request the commission to re-conduct fresh free and fair election without the influence of money’”.

Viswanathan said the election Commission should sent a high level team to probe the conduct of  elections and take steps to annul the polls.

He said  only the candidates of PWA approached the people with clear policies for governance and urging to vote for change of government.

He alleged that  even on election day, money was distributed outside the polling stations while the police and authorities were looking the other side.

These political parties claim that people have faith on them, then  why should they distribute money for buying votes, he asked.

He said the whole process and the results will remain as black dot on democracy.

He said in the beginning itself, the ECI had already expressed its displeasure in the election process run up and they intervened to change some of the officials, which did not have any effect as the officials at the lower level were not changed.
