TNCC president blames PM for demoetisation mess

CHENNAI: TNCC president S Thirunavukkarasar has flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for causing inconvenience and hardship to the common man following demonetisation.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, after paying floral tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary at Sathyamoorthi Bhavan, he said, "The Prime Minister has earned the wrath of the public following demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes overnight without giving time for exchanging them. Women and daily wagers are the worst hit and they are forced to line up before bank branches and ATMs for long hours."

Several people had swooned and a few died while queuing up before bank branches, Thirunavukkarasar said and held the PM responsible for the death of the poor people.

He also assailed Modi of enacting a drama before the people by turning emotional only to escape public fury.

Referring to the statement released by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa, bearing her signature, on Sunday, appealing for support in the polls, he expressed happiness and said further statements having measures for the welfare of the people might follow soon.

Meanwhile, AICC spokesperson Khushbu criticised demonetisation without taking necessary measures to mitigate the woes of the public.

"Patients cannot get admitted at hospitals. Parents are not able to pay children's education fees. Marriages have to be stopped for want of money," she rued, questioning were these people possessing black money.
