SALEM: Using demonetisation as an opportunity to trick the gullible, two constables, posing as CBI officials, looted `1 lakh from a person in Salem. A ‘secret investigation’ has reportedly been launched into the matter. As many people were running from pillar to post to change their black money following the demonetisation of `500 and `1,000 notes, it was expected of the police to curb the flow of unaccounted cash. But in Salem, two police personnel did the opposite and looted cash under the garb of a search operation.

Express managed to get full details regarding the robbery. M Paranthaman, 42 years, residing in CN Palayam village in Salem district runs a monthly chit fund and owns a shopping complex.

Knowing Paranthaman possesses black money, two police head constables, Ravi and Rajaganapathi, attached to serious crime squad, planned an operation. The duo rented a car and waylaid Paranthaman and introduced themselves as CBI officials. They then threatened to raid his house as they had reports of black money being hidden there. Paranthaman then managed to strike a deal with the duo.
