CHENNAI: Attempts to wipe out the DMK that has been making strides on the path of the Justice Party, which fought for social justice in Tamil Nadu, will not fructify and the party itself would celebrate centenary celebrations, said leaders speaking at the centenary celebration of the Justice Party here on Tuesday.

Recalling the yeomen service rendered by the Justice Party founded by the trio of C Natesa Mudaliyar, Sir P Theagaraya Chetti and Dr TM Nair and subsequently the DMK under the able leadership of CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, DMK treasurer MK Stalin said, "A few people are attempting to stamp out the DMK. Such efforts have not yielded results in the past and will not, in the future, too."

Listing the achievements of DMK in the cause of social justice, he asserted that the party has got the wherewithal to withstand any sort of attacks targeted against it. The DMK itself would witness its centenary celebrations, he said, adding his party would continue to fight for social progress and development of women with vigour.

Dravida Iyakka Tamilar Peravai leader Suba Veerapandian too said the bid to dismantle the DMK would not be an easy task though such attempts have been there for long.

Hailing the Justice Party for bringing social justice to the oppressed and the backward sections of the society in the state, he pointed out that the party ensured voting rights to women in Tamil Nadu well before the women in Britain obtained similar privilege.

Popular writer Manushyaputhiran called for a powerful movement to resist the attempts to impose Hindi and Sanskrit in the state while Pazha Karuppaiah, former MLA, said the struggle for social justice and equal rights spearheaded by Dravidian movement saw even Kamarajar to adorn the seat of Chief Minister because till then Congress party was under the grip of upper caste leaders.

DMK veteran and former minister Duraimurugan eulogised Stalin as a fifth generation Dravidian leader to head DMK. K Thirunavukkarasu, Dravidian historian, recalled the landmark initiatives of the Justice Party while holding power five times.
