Hindu Makkal Katchi state president performs 'Ayudha pooja' with firearms and sword

Some persons sought stringent action against Sampath, they said.

COIMBATORE: A top functionary of right-wing outfit Hindu Makkal Katchi stirred up a controversy by performing 'Ayudha Pooja' sitting in front of weapons like sword and arms and then posted the pictures of same on Facebook.

HMK state president Arjun Sampath had posted pictures of him performing the pooja yesterday.
About six firearms, including rifles, a pistol, sword and a sickle, were placed before a deity and he was seen sitting in front of it.

Police said that soon after the pictures were posted, questions were raised from many quaters on whether it was legal to perform pooja for firearms and whether he had licenses for them.

Some persons sought stringent action against Sampath, they said.

Sampath was not immediately available for his comments. The Facebook post was found withdrawn after some time.
