CHENNAI: Claiming that it was his party-led government that initiated massive desilting drive when in power in the past, DMK working president MK Stalin on Sunday challenged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to order a probe into the ‘Kudimaramathu’ scheme.

Alleging irregularities in the much trumpeted desilting, he asked as to who were the beneficiaries of the desilting drive? “How many of them were AIADMK men?”

Stalin also challenged the Chief Minister whether he could prove that desilting works were not entrusted to AIADMK men.If he was not able to do so, would he order a probe into the ‘Kudimaramathu’ works carried out so far, he asked.

Referring to the row over the Katcharayan tank desilting, Stalin claimed that it was DMK men who first initiated the drive. He alleged that AIADMK men and officials had been instigated to arrest him.
He claimed that it was DMK government, headed by his father M Karunanidhi, that carried out desilting of Cauvery estuary at a cost of `100 crore.

Strongly criticising the Chief Minister over the recent controversies on gutka sale, bribing of voters in RK Nagar Assembly segment and corruption charges against Health Minister C Vijaya Basker, Stalin said his party would continue to fight to put an end to the AIADMK government.
