The decapitated body of a retired professor of Madurai Kamaraj University was recovered from Sitilarai near Musiri on Sunday.

TIRUCHY: The decapitated body of a retired professor of Madurai Kamaraj University was recovered from Sitilarai near Musiri on Sunday. The MUV of Krishnan (61), the deceased, was found abandoned a few metres away from where the body was recovered.

Investigations indicated enmity over a property dispute as the motive of the murder. Internal organs such as intestines were found ripped.

Police reached the spot and moved the body to the Government Tiruchy Hospital after villagers informed about the decapitated body.  Using the vehicle’s documents, the identity of the deceased was established. The victim’s son also identified the body.

As Krishnan’s wife Pushpam died a few years ago, the retired professor had been residing with his son Om Kumar Venkatesh at Andalpuram in Madurai.

Krishnan was said to have left Madurai a few days back to his native village of Kovakkulam in Krishnarayapuram taluk of Karur district to enquire about a marriage proposal for his son. Since then, he was said to be missing.

Krishnan had been maintaining 5.5 acres of land at Kovakkulam, and there was personal enmity between the victim and a few locals. Police sources alleged that the murder could have been a fallout of the  dispute. Sources claimed that at least four men had been involved in the murder.

Musiri Police have registered a case.
