Tamil Nadu State board students find physics tough in NEET

There was a mixed reaction among the students to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) held on Sunday.

CHENNAI: There was a mixed reaction among the students to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) held on Sunday. A majority of students found Physics tough.  While CBSE students found the paper easy, State Board students found the paper moderate.

According to State Board students, the papers seemed tough as many concepts had not been taught in depth unlike in the CBSE. Most found Biology easy and Chemistry moderate. “I found Physics a bit tough and Chemistry moderate, but Biology was easy,” said N Faizunissa, a student.
The paper consisted of three subjects — Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with 180 questions, 45 questions from Physics, 45 from Chemistry and 90 from Biology. The total marks were 720. Four marks were allotted for correct answer and one negative mark for wrong answer.

Daryn I A, a State Board student, said the paper was moderate. “Most of the questions were from Class XI and XII. I wrote the paper fine,” he said.CBSE student S Abhirami said Botany was very easy in Biology section, and Electronics and Atomic Physics were easy in Physics section.A parent said the State Board students got only one-month time to prepare, which was insufficient.A Azmia, a State Board student, said she found certain portions of Chemistry tough. “I found most of Physics tough. In Chemistry, I found Electro Chemistry tough. We were not taught this chapter in detail,” she said.

Resonating a similar view, T Dhanalakshmi and B Archana, both students of a State Board school, said they found Modern Physics and Thermodynamics tough. “These concepts were not taught in depth in State Board unlike in the CBSE,” Dhanalakshmi added.
According to a NEET official, 88,000 candidates had registered in Tamil Nadu, of whom around 84,000 appeared. In Chennai, 38,000 candidates were registered. Of them, around 36,000 appeared. In each class, there were one or two absentees. Of the 57 centres in Tamil Nadu, 13 were in Chennai. The exam was held in eight places in Tamil Nadu — Chennai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Vellore, Namakkal, Tirunelveli and Salem — and in Puducherry. A total of 11.35 lakh candidates had registered for the test across the country.
