CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and top leaders of AIADMK-Amma on Monday discussed several issues, including speeding up the filing of affidavits before the Election Commission of India (ECI) claiming rights over the party’s Two leaves symbol and holding the birth centenary celebrations of party founder and the late chief minister M G Ramachandran.
Party presidium chairperson and School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan presided over the meeting that lasted for about an hour at the AIADMK headquarters in Royapettah. Senior ministers, including S P Velumani (Municipal Administration), P Thangamani (Electricity) and D Jayakumar (Finance and Fisheries) also took part in the meeting.
Briefing reporters on the deliberations, Jayakumar said, “The modalities of holding the birth centenary of MGR and speeding up the filing of affidavits before ECI was discussed at the meeting.” He added that affidavits from party office-bearers right from the bottom level units to district secretaries, MLAs and MPs are being obtained for submission before the Commission.
Meanwhile, a senior leader of the party informed that the chief minister has advised the party functionaries to go soft on the BJP and the Central government on various issues.
