MUMBAI: In a memorandum presented to Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao here on Wednesday, the DMK has sought dismissal of chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy and his council of ministers over charges of corruption.

Three Members of Parliament from DMK, led by R S Bharathi, including TKS Elangovan and Tiruchi N Siva met and presented a memorandum to Governor Rao at Raj Bhavan here.

The memorandum signed by DMK president M K Stalin also demands that the union government should initiate a CBI probe into the “massive corruption of council of ministers belonging to the AIADMK government”.

Any conviction for an offence of bribery results in automatic disqualification of elected members of legislative bodies for a period of minimum six years, according to the Representation of People act, 1951.

Documents seized by the Income Tax (I-T) department in recent raids have clearly shown that chief minister Edappadi Palanisamy and his council of ministers systematically carried out bribery of voters.

Hence, they are liable to be convicted and disqualified from holding public offices, the memorandum submitted by the DMK members has argued.
