Work on new building for Pallavaram Taluk

Nearly two years after Pallavaram Taluk was created, its office is all set to move into its own building at Zamin Raayapettai by the middle of next year.

CHENNAI: Nearly two years after Pallavaram Taluk was created, its office is all set to move into its own building at Zamin Raayapettai by the middle of next year.

Since its creation in January 2016, the office of Tahsildar of Pallavaram has been functioning out of a cramped structure on the first floor of a government building inside Pallavaram Municipal office at New Colony, Chromepet.

As the office did not even have enough space for staff or any facilities for visitors, the government decided to go in for a new building, official sources told Express.

The new facility will be on a piece of land measuring 50 cents at Zamin Raayapettai. The vacant site was a mound of filth hitherto, and it has now been cleared to make way for building construction. A simple ground breaking ceremony was conducted last week. Earth moving equipment were used to level the ground, clear most of the garbage and create a channel to drain sewage.

Officials said the building will be constructed at a cost of `2.61 crore. While the taluk office at the existing place is close to both Chromepet bus stop and railway station, the new location, though close to Pallavaram - Thorapakkam Radial Road, might cause problems of access to people coming from far away destinations.

It was in 2009 that the Tambaram Taluk was trifurcated with the creation of Alandur and Sholinganallur Taluks.

27 revenue villages

Pallavaram Taluk has 27 revenue villages in Pallavaram (4), Pammal (4), Kundrathur (9) and Mangadu (10) fircas - revenue circles
