COIMBATORE: Protests on Cauvery water issue by DMK and Congress parties are merely an eyewash, said BJP state president Tamilisai Soundarrajan here on Tuesday.

"Cauvery water dispute is not new and it is a five-decade-old problem. When those parties were in power, they did not take any steps to resolve the Cauvery issue during their tenure. Both the parties are working against the welfare of the Tamils. Contempt of court petition should be filed against DMK and the Congress as they have created confusion over a word 'scheme'. In its order on February 16, the Supreme Court had given six weeks to frame a scheme for constituting the Board and the Cauvery water regulation committee. The Central government is working legally to solve the ongoing Cauvery water sharing issue as we won't succeed by indulging in protests. We consider that the legal step would be a permanent one. Surely, the people of Tamil Nadu will celebrate after receiving Cauvery water and that's why we are working for it," Tamilisai Soundarrajan said, while speaking to the media persons at Coimbatore International Airport.

She also condemned Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who according to her, is the reason for the ongoing Cauvery issue. "The Karnataka CM said that they won't allow to set up Cauvery Management Board (CMB). Similarly, he also allotted Rs 6,000 crore rupees to construct a dam at Mekedattu. DMK working president MK Stalin and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) S Thirunavukkarasu should give answers on what they were doing about it, " she said.

Replying to AIADMK's hunger strike over Cauvery issue, Tamilisai said that observing hunger strike was every one's right's. However, she said that no MP has resigned from the post over the issue.

Referring to various protests by the people, she said that the Central government was taking various steps to convert the State into an industrial hub, but people were showing black flags against it.
