

CHENNAI: Profusely hailing the services of the State police in maintaining law and order in an efficient manner, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday exhorted the personnel to equip themselves to face the professional challenges caused by socio-economic and technical changes across the globe.He referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s saying , ‘The best way to find yourself is, to lose yourself in the service of others’. The Chief Minister was speaking at the passing out parade of twenty-nine personnel of Deputy Superintendent of Police rank of the 2012-2014 batch. Palaniswami also honoured 201 police personnel for their extraordinary performance in their field.
The event marked the end of one year training given to the twenty-nine police personnel, including 12 women personnel, who were trained in various field including law, evidence science, psychological behaviour, police rules and modern India.The cadres were also taken to other States to have a cultural understanding.The Chief Minister said Tamil Nadu was a haven of peace. It was due to the sleepless nights spent by police personnel that citizens were able to sleep peacefully.
Understanding the role of law and order in the State, the State government had made all necessary efforts to modernise the police department. The Tamil Nadu police have shown their prowess by pre-empting impending problems.Detailing the measures taken to modernise police force and the welfare measures being implemented for police personnel in the State, the Chief Minister said the allocation for police had been raised from `2,961 crore in 2010-2011 to `7,877 crore in 2017-2018. About 58,593 police personnel have got promotions in the past six years. In order to have transparency in the department, 747 police stations across the State have 4,482 CCTV cameras and over 1,23,313 CCTV cameras have been installed in public places.
DSP Sathish Kumar receives best cadet award
E Sathish Kumar, who performed metoriously in all the trainings, received the DGP Sword for best cadet from Chief Minister. Hailing from a farmer family in Namakkal, Sathish finished his Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering at Anna University. Passing out in the year 2012, Sathish worked as a software engineer for a brief period of six months. “My friend Saravanan’s father Balakrishnan who served as a ADSP, was the beginning of the craze to be a police. The feeling grew stronger after I met ADGP Jaffar Sait. He was our incharge during the training and will never forget his instructions and the impact he created for me to aspire my dream of serving the people,” said the newly recruited DSP, who will be posted for training in Nagapattinam.
