CHENNAI: A chief metropolitan magistrate court in Chennai has granted bail to actor and BJP leader S Ve Shekher today in connection with a women harassment case after he appeared in the court amidst tight
security.

The BJP leader raked up a storm recently for sharing a Facebook post which claimed women journalists compromise themselves. He was never arrested by the city police despite Madras High Court and the Supreme Court denying him bails.

As directed by the high court, he appeared before the chief magistrate court today. The court posted the next hearing in the case on July 18 and Shekher has to appear in court on that day also.

He had been booked under section four of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act based on complaints of a woman journalist.

According to Venkatesh Mahadevan, Shekher’s advocate, they would be provided a copy of the chargesheet on July 18 and the hearings will begin.

S Ve Shekher, who arrived at the court near Moore market at 10:15 am sporting a sky blue linen shirt, dark blue jeans and sneakers, was made to wait till 1 am before Chief Magistrate Malar Vizhi heard his case
and allowed bail.

S Ve Shekher remained surprisingly cool even when standing in the box in the court hall, striking a disinterested pose and tapping on the furniture, even as various sections of society have been calling for
his arrest.

Earlier, the Madras High Court on May 10 had denied S Ve Shekher anticipatory bail. The court had observed that sharing a post was equivalent to writing it.
