Madras High Court reduces Sri Venkateshwara Medical College management quota by five seats
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has reduced five seats from the quota allotted to Sri Venkateshwara Medical College Hospital & Research Centre at Ariyur in Puducherry under the management quota for admission of students for 2019-20. “In view of the conduct of the college to deny admission circumventing the order of this court on flimsy grounds, the number of seats reserved under management quota for the college for 2019-20 shall be reduced by five seats,” Justice S S Sundar has said.
The judge also awarded a compensation of Rs one lakh to be paid by the college to Mithuna, the petitioner, for illegally denying admission to her for 2018-19, despite court orders. He also directed the Centralised Admission committee (CENTAC) in Puducherry to “allot a seat in UG medical course for 2019-20 under the management quota to petitioner in any other self-financing private medical college in Puducherry out of the seat permitted to be filled up by Sri Venkateshwara Medical college. This one seat will be filled up by CENTAC under State quota in that college as the same will be reduced by one seat in the other colleges when the petitioner is given admission,” the judge said.
