CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin ordered the rescue of Tamils who were stranded in Manipur due to riots. The state government has taken steps to bring back five Tamils belonging to various districts who expressed their desire to return to Tamil Nadu.
According to a release, the Department of Public and Rehabilitation has been in touch with Tamil Nadu students studying medicine and other courses in Manipur, providing them necessary assistance, including food and water. The Manipur government and representatives of Tamil Sangam have also extended support to TN government in this regard.
The medical students who were contacted by the Tamil Nadu government said they are safe in their hostels and do not wish to return. However, five Tamil students from various districts have expressed their desire to return, and the state government has taken steps to bring them back to Chennai by flight on Tuesday night. Subsequently, they will be sent to their hometowns.
The statement also said Tamil Nadu government is taking steps to ensure the safety of Tamils who have been living in Moreh town for over five decades, with the support of the Manipur government and Tamil Sangam.
