Minister pays floral tribute to Florence Nightingale on World Nurse Day

THOOTHUKUDI:  Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister Geetha Jeevan attended the World Nurses Day celebration at Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital on Friday. The day is in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, a selfless nurse in the 19th century. Nurses of the hospital took out a rally to create awareness about the services and devotion of the nurses.

TKMCH dean Dr G Sivakumar organised a seminar on behalf of the nurses. Geetha Jeevan honoured the nurses who have completed 35 years and 25 years experience with appreciation certificates. The students conducted a blood donation camp "Uthiram-23" in association with Youth Red Cross and National Service Scheme (NSS). Over 350 students participated in the event and donated 300 units of blood. Sivakumar, RMO Dr Silas Jebamani, Blood Bank medical officer Dr R Santhi, NSS officer Dr N Sabari Raja and Youth Red Cross officer Dr N Israel Raja were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Kovilpatti rotary club observed international nurses day at Kovilpatti government hospital. Nurses and students paid floral tributes to the portrait of Florence Nightingale. Rotary club president Ravi Manickam, RMO Balakrishnan, activist Muthumurugan and others were present.
