CHENNAI: On International Mother’s Day, Governor RN Ravi expressed concern about mothers being left unattended. “We are passing through a civilisational crisis where families are getting broken. We have an unfortunate situation where mothers are left unattended. Children grow up and fly away to distant destinations. Mothers or parents are left behind alone,” he said while taking part in Mother’s Day celebrations held at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

Ravi and Lady Governor Laxmi Ravi felicitated the mothers of several achievers on the occasion.
Ravi said the difference between an animal and a human being is that the former too has love for its children but once the young ones start running or flying, the parent detaches itself from them. “Only in human beings, a mother continues to love her children and care for them all through her life. Even a grown-up son or daughter, who might have children themselves, continue to receive affection from parents,” Ravi said.

“Today Raj Bhavan has the privilege to felicitate a few mothers and it is almost like the premises has been purified. Despite reaching any height, we must not abandon our mother,” Ravi added. The following persons were felicitated: N Nagalakshmi (mother of Chess Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa), Gnanasundari (mother of Ponraj, Paralympic gold medallist), B  Jayalakshmi (mother of Sasikumar, founder - Uyir Foundation), Meenakshi Chandrasekaran (mother of Erode Mahesh, film celebrity and motivational speaker), Nagamani (mother of actress Aishwarya Rajesh), R Arulmary (mother of Sujith Kumar, founder of Maatram Foundation), Thilagavathy Gnanadesikan and Vasantha Meenakshisundaram (mothers of Vijay Gnanadesikan and Ilango Meenakshisundaram - Face Tagr), J Heena (mother of Grace Banu, India’s first trans-engineer and social activist).

Overwhelmed by emotion, Gnanasundari, mother of paralympic gold medallist Ponraj, touched the feet of the governor and Ravi immediately reciprocated.
