High level committee probes MKU violations in CAS promotion

The committee is of the view that lapses have occurred in some cases in the promotion of CAS-2017 in MKU against UGC regulations, he said.

MADURAI: Members of the high-level inquiry committee, appointed by the principal secretary to the higher education department D Karthikeyan, has observed that some of the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions given by the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) were in violation of UGC regulations.

The government had constituted a committee consisting of the joint secretary to the higher education department SP Karthikaa and the deputy secretary to the higher education department M Ilango Henry Dass. They conducted an inquiry into the allegations raised with respect to awarding promotions under Career Advance Scheme (CAS) in Periyar University, Madurai Kamaraj University and Annamalai University. The committee is of the view that lapses have occurred in some cases in the promotion of CAS-2017 in MKU against UGC regulations, he said.

The G.O. released by D Karthikeyan further stated that subject experts and academicians-- Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Coimbatore Region, V Kalaiselvi, Tiruchy Region Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education A Gunasekaran, Dharmapuri Region Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education Office's Assistant Director A Ravindran and Thanjavur Region Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education Assistant Director K Kowdalyan-- were directed to probe into this matter. Following the order, these members came to MKU on May 2 and continued their verification of documents till May 13. These members will submit the report to the high-level committee soon, the G.O. added.

Speaking to TNIE, MKU Vice-Chancellor J Kumar said members of the committee have thoroughly checked the documents pertaining to CAS-2017 and the outcome of their verification will be reported directly to the government, he said.
