PUDUCHERRY:  Puducherry and Karaikal regions of the UT marked a pass percentage of 89.12 in the SSLC examination for the year 2022-2023. Compared to the previous year’s results, there is a 3.8% decline in the rate.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy and Home and Education Minister A Namassivayam announced the results on Friday and said, out of the 15,415 students who appeared for the examinations, 13,738 have passed. As usual, girl students fared better as 7,038 out of the total 7,618 (92.39%) marked success. Boy students, on the other hand, marked a pass percentage of 85.93 with 6,700 of them succeeding out of the total 7,797.

While private schools registered a pass percentage of 95.61, government schools got 78. 92% which was 85.01% in 2022. A total of 129 students secured centum in various subjects — 61 in Mathematics, 49 in Science, and 19 in Social Science.

The CM said that the education department will analyse the reason for the decline in the academic performance of government school students and take necessary steps to tackle it. He assumed that the reasons could be the pandemic and the “all pass” declaration for the students from Class 1 to 9.

Namassivayam said a committee would be constituted to study reasons for the poor performance of government schools. However, even the pass percentage registered by private schools in Puducherry also declined by 1% compared to the last academic year.

The centre has granted permission to introduce the CBSE curriculum in 116 schools out of 127 schools that applied and has given assurance to give approval for the remaining schools too, added Namassivayam.
