CHENNAI: On the occasion of Children’s Day, School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and HR and CE Minister PK Sekar Babu handed over awards to students who excelled in various competitions and shields to 114 government elementary schools for their good performance.

Speaking to the media, Poyyamozhi said he has completed inspections of schools across all 234 constituencies in the state, and will soon submit a report to CM MK Stalin. He noted while infrastructure improvements are needed, there is also a need to appoint more teachers due to the increasing enrolment in government schools. The minister added the government has already announced plans to hire 19,000 teachers, including those for colleges, in a phased manner.

Meanwhile, in a press note, the School Education Department stated it has directed district education officials to verify whether any teachers are employing proxies to conduct their classes. The directive follows the suspension of a teacher in Dharmapuri who was found using a proxy to take classes.
