Two-day safety inspection at Pamban bridge concludes

The Divisional Railways Manager added that an expert team will be deputed to inspect the old bridge and ensure that it is stable for preservation as a heritage symbol.

RAMANATHAPURAM: The commissioner of railway safety completed their two-day inspection of the Pamban railway sea bridge in Ramanathapuram on Thursday.

Railway official sources said that the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), Southern Circle, Bengaluru AM Chowdhary conducted the statutory inspection of the newly laid broad gauge line between Pamban and Mandapam stations and the newly constructed Pamban bridge.

Divisional Railway Manager of Madurai division Sharad Srivastava said, "The CRS has conducted an extensive inspection in the last two days. He inspected the vertical lift girder span, structure and other features of the broad gauge line. On Thursday, a trial was carried out on the Mandapam-Pamban line. The train achieved a speed of 90 km/hr on the section."

"The inspections have been completed, now the CRS has to assess the inspection reports, based on which the railway department will take further actions," he added.  

While speaking about the old bridge, DRM added that an expert team will be deputed to inspect the old bridge and ensure that it is stable for preservation as a heritage symbol.

During the inspection, Chief Project Manager (Coordination) Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) B Kamalakar Reddy and Chief Administrative Officer, Construction (Chennai and Egmore)  Sushil Kumar Maurya were present.
