Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, judicial academy receive 'bomb' threat, turns out to be hoax

MADURAI: Proceedings of the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court were disrupted for a few hours after two bomb threats were received on Friday. But a thorough search of the premises by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), police and bomb detection and disposal squads, revealed that they were hoax. The proceedings resumed at 1 pm.

According to sources, the threat emails were sent to two High Court judges. The gates of the main entrance were locked around 10 am. All staff, advocates and litigants who entered the premises before 10 am were evacuated and made to wait at a safe distance. The judges were also moved to safety.

CISF personnel, police and bomb detection squad searched the building and surrounding areas and confirmed that the emails were a hoax. The gates were opened around 12.30 pm and the court resumed its functions after 1 pm without lunch break. Friday was the last working day before the court goes on a nine-day vacation for Dussehra.

Search was conducted at the Tamil Nadu Judicial Academy near Thamaraithotti, which also received a similar email. It was found to be a hoax too. Sources said the Registry lodged a complaint with Madurai cyber crime police.
