Chennai is DMK’s fort, ‘Team TN’ will defeat Delhi in polls: Udhaya

CHENNAI: Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency, and expressed confidence of being re-elected from the seat with a record margin for the second consecutive term.

The 48-year-old DMK youth wing secretary arrived at the venue after a massive roadshow that saw thousands of cadres and supporters line the streets. “For the last three days, I have been campaigning in different parts of the state. We have a very bright chance of winning the election.

I could see more women voters extending their support to DMK,” he told the reporters. Addressing the voters of the constituency, he said, “In all these five years, I have been with the people of my constituency. Let it be Covid-19 or rain, I have been with them all 365 days. I could see the reception for my work,” he said.

“Chennai is DMK’s fort. The CM has done a lot for Chennai, including schemes for development of North Chennai and building of storm water drains and new flyovers. When it comes to Chennai’s infrastructure, it has always been DMK that has delivered,” he said.

“Delhi (BJP) is trying to take control of our state through AIADMK. That’s why we are continuously saying that the election is between Delhi and Tamil Nadu. We are sure that team TN will win,” Udhayanidhi told reporter. Meanwhile, on the second day for filing of nominations, as many as 59 candidates, including 24 independents, filed their papers across 16 constituencies in Chennai.

Former AIADMK minister D Jayakumar filed his nomination in Royapuram, PMK’s M Thilagabama in Perambur, and AMMK’s candidate and former minister G Senthamizhan file his papers in Saidapet. T Porkodi, wife of slain state BSP president K Armstrong, filed nomination at Thiru Vi Ka Nagar on behalf of AIADMK. Ten NTK and five TVK candidates also filed their papers in various constituencies.
