CHENNAI: In the wake of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s arrest on Tuesday over his alleged derogatory remarks during the DMK’s Thanjavur meet on Monday, and the reactions from political leaders on it, Minister for Law C T R Nirmal Kumar said the former lacked the qualifications and the capability to serve effectively in the Assembly as the leader of the Opposition (LoP).
Addressing media persons in the city, Minister Kumar said Udhayanidhi had travelled to Thanjavur to speak on the Cauvery and Mekedatu issues but had instead spoken on “unnecessary subjects”.
“If he was not familiar with the Cauvery and Mekedatu issues, he could have simply read from the prepared notes. Instead, he made remarks against women. Such speeches are unacceptable and the TVK government will not tolerate them,” the minister remarked.
Kumar asked whether DMK cadre would be comfortable listening along with their family members the remarks Udhayanidhi made. The DMK leader’s remarks reflected a “crooked mindset”, he said.
On AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s remarks over Udhayanidhi’s arrest, the minister said the TVK-led government has acted in a way that former CMs J Jayalalithaa and M G Ramachandran would have for remarks insulting women. “Does Palaniswami accept Udhayanidhi’s remarks against women?” he asked. “The law will take its course against anyone insulting women,” he said.
