TIRUPPUR: Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay inaugurated a bridge built by the city corporation across the Noyyal River in Tiruppur at a cost of Rs 18 crore.
Officials said as part of infrastructure development in the Tiruppur corporation area, work began last year to construct a new bridge across the Noyyal River, replacing an old one, to connect Eswaran Kovil Road with the Union Mill Road junction.
Construction work on this bridge had already been completed, and it had been awaiting inauguration for the past few weeks. Councillors raised questions regarding this at the corporation council meeting held last week as well. There was also criticism on media platforms regarding this.
In this backdrop, on Tuesday, CM Vijay inaugurated the bridge constructed under the Infrastructure and Development Fund across the Noyyal River through video conferencing. In Tiruppur, Collector Manish Naranaware, corporation Mayor (in-charge) R Balasubramaniam, Commissioner M P Amith, MLAs S Balamurugan, V Sathyabama took part.
“The opening of this bridge will reduce the travel time between the north and south parts of Tiruppur. Traffic congestion on the main roads will be reduced. Schools, hospitals and government offices will be easily accessible. Goods will be transported to commercial establishments faster,” officials added.
