MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Tuesday issued notice to central and state governments, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought a direction to make all Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Madurai-Tenkasi road corridor functional.
The litigant AV Kathir, a law student from Madurai, stated that though the union and state governments were encouraging and funding EV adoption, majority of the charging infrastructure installed by the government and PSUs remain were not in a working condition.
He requested the court to direct the authorities to repair the non-functional charging points on the above stretch in a time bound manner.
He further sought direction to provide EV charging facilities in Freedom Filling Stations in Madurai, Tiruchy and Palayamkottai Central Prisons.
A bench of justices CV Karthikeyan and R Sakthivel issued notice and sought a report on the date from which the EV charging stations would become operable by the fuel corporations. The case was adjourned to August 19.
