

TIRUCHY: Three persons, including a child, were killed and seven others sustained serious injuries after an omnibus collided with a car near Samayapuram in Tiruchy in the late hours on Monday. The deceased are P Pandiyan (49), R Dhanalakshmi (47), and her son R Pavin (8) from Pudukkottai.
According to police, 10 people from Kottaikadu near Karambakudi were travelling in a car to the Samayapuram Mariamman Temple after visiting Thanjavur temple on Monday.
When the car reached near Pallividai bridge after crossing the Samayapuram service road, the driver, Mageshwaran, mistakenly continued on the main highway instead of taking the left service road leading to the temple.
After driving a short distance, he stopped the car abruptly and attempted to reverse it. At that moment, a private omni bus travelling from Tiruchy towards Chennai crashed into the rear of the car. Pandiyan, Dhanalakshmi, and Pavin sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Srirangam government hospital for autopsy.
