TIRUPATTUR: Demanding permanent employee status, around 15 load workers from the Vaniyambadi Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) staged a protest in front of the Taluk operation godown on Friday. The protest is part of the state-wide strike by the TNCSC loadmen demanding wage revision, permanent employee status and recognition of the workers' union.

According to the Tirupattur workers, out of 30 load workers, only 15 have been granted permanent status in the taluk operation godown, while the other 15 are still temporary employees. They alleged that temporary workers' attendance has been tampered with by in-charges at the godown, leading to low wages.

“We’ve been working as loadmen for more than 8-15 years, but we have still not been granted permanent worker status,” said the protesting workers.

Furthermore, the workers alleged that when they confronted the godown in-charge, he did not bother about the issues and brought other workers from outside. He has been continuing the godown operation as normal and not responding to any of the workers' demands within the facility, they added.

When TNIE reached out to the district-level TNCSC official, they said the workers' demands have been taken up by the state-level administrative directors, leading to the calling off of the protest today.
