VELLORE: Stressing on the importance of governments collaborating with educational institutions to address civic issues and other challenges in their respective states, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday exhorted students to not just use artificial intelligence (AI) but also to build it.
Addressing the gathering during the 41st annual convocation of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT-Vellore campus), the CM, who was chief guest, said, “India is a laboratory of innovation; we shouldn’t just use AI but also build it. This will be the greatest help you can do for the country and your state.”
The CM, who primarily delivered her speech in Hindi, congratulated the students on their graduation.
The Delhi CM also inaugurated the Centre for Advanced Research in Bacteriophage and Infectious Diseases (CARBID), jointly sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and VIT, on campus.
In his speech, TCS vice president and CTO Babu Unnikrishnan said that AI and other technologies have become a part of everything that one does. “AI democratises knowledge; the only difference between you and AI is your character and knowledge,” he told students.
University founder Dr G Viswanathan said, “17 universities in Tamil Nadu currently do not have a vice chancellor; it’s important to bring the state governors and the education system together. This is my request to the new education minister.”
A total of 11,276 who pursued UG and PG courses and 785 research scholars will graduate during the two-day convocation ceremony.
