'Singapen force held 530 awareness events across Krishnagiri since inception'

The teams have spread awareness regarding crimes against women and children at 530 locations across the district.

KRISHNAGIRI: A total of 530 awareness programmes were conducted by the Singapen Special Task Force since its inception on June 10, apart from aiding in filing four FIRs related to crimes against women and children in Krishnagiri district, according the district ADSP.

The ADSP (crimes against women and children) told TNIE, "On June 10, two teams of three members each were formed for the task force, led by an official of the rank of sub-inspector of police. The teams have spread awareness regarding crimes against women and children at 530 locations across the district. Apart from this, the team also aided in registering four FIRs, including three under the Pocso Act. During patrols, the task force has also identified about 35 vulnerable areas."

He further added that, "The Singapen Special Task Force identified about 100 spots in need of CCTV cameras, and the same was communicated to the police stations concerned and over 15 CCTV cameras have been installed so far. The team is travelling across the district from Singarapettai to Zuzuvadi, and also tribal areas like Bettamugilalam, and conducting awareness programmes."

"It was only a few weeks ago, a 16-year-old girl from Hosur left her home due to a family dispute. The task force later found her at the Hosur Bus Stand. She was rescued and sent to a One Stop Centre. Her grandparents were informed and she was handed over to them," the ADSP explained.

Soon, four more teams will be added to the Singapen force, he added.
