THANJAVUR: Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin said the TVK-led government is taking the state backwards in terms of economic growth and development. Speaking at the wedding function in the family of a party functionary in Pattukkottai on Sunday, Udhayanidhi recalled that during DMK rule, Tamil Nadu was the number one state in the country with 11.19% growth rate.
“The TVK government has pushed it backwards,” he said, adding Chief Minister (C Joseph Vijay) is not bothered about any of the issues plaguing the state.
Further, Udhayanidhi said opposition MLAs go to the Assembly fully prepared to raise issues faced by people, but Chief Minister Vijay doesn’t answer any of them. “Only three-four ministers rise to answer, but the replies are not relevant to the questions.
They engage in diversionary tactics. The ministers and ruling party MLAs are not coming to Assembly to speak about issues. What they need is four (insta) reels for the day,” Udhayanidhi added.
The DMK leader also pointed out that in the 105 days of TVK rule, farmers are the most affected. “During DMK rule, water from Mettur dam was released on the stipulated date of June 12.
Even ahead of the date in some years,” he said, adding that now even at the fag end of August, water is yet to be released. “Kuruvai cultivation has been affected in the delta districts and the farmers need to be compensated for the loss,” the Leader of Opposition said.
He also questioned the decision to provide cars to the MLAs when the CM cites lack of funds to provide complete crop loan waiver to farmers.
