

CHENNAI: Tamil Development Minister A Rajmohan on Monday announced that a high-level committee would be constituted to make preparations for the next World Tamil Conference. Replying to the discussion on the demand for grants in the Assembly, the minister said holding the World Tamil Conference is a grand vision of Chief Minister Vijay.
The minister also announced a series of initiatives to promote and enrich the Tamil language, literature and culture. The government will provide an additional Rs 5.75 crore in recurring expenditure to establish a Tamil Chair at University of Houston.
A memorial complex, with a library, for Veeramangai Velu Nachiyar, social reformer Thanthai Periyar, chief author of Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar, former CM K Kamaraj and freedom fighter Anjalai Ammal will be established in Chennai at `5 crore. A `2.50-crore memorial hall with a statue of director Bharathiraja will come up at Theni. The MGR Film and Television Training Institute will be upgraded at `9.25 crore.
