CHENNAI: The Madras High Court will pronounce the orders on the appeals filed by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC), challenging the single judge’s order to issue the UA 16+ certification for actor-politician Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, on January 27.
The first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan is likely to pronounce the orders at 10.30 am on Tuesday. The bench, on January 20, reserved the orders on the appeal petitions after the arguments were completed. After the movie’s release was postponed, the producer, KVN Productions, moved the High Court for issuing directions to the board to give UA 16+ certification as communicated earlier.
However, the CBFC said the movie had to be referred to the revising committee. Justice PT Asha, on January 9, directed the board to grant UA 16+ certification forthwith, which was stayed by the division bench. Meanwhile, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy on Friday reserved the orders on a petition filed by Vijay, challenging the Income Tax department’s order for imposing a Rs 1.5-crore penalty on him for the non-disclosure of Rs 15-crore income during the assessment year of 2015-2016. He had filed the plea against the 2022 order of the I-T department, citing limitation and other grounds.
