Tamil Nadu man kills self after cops seize bike, ‘assault’ him

During a vehicle inspection, T Palur police found out that Selvakumar had been driving under the influence of alcohol and a case was registered against him.

ARIYALUR: A 38-year-old man died by suicide on Saturday night near T Palur after the police allegedly assaulted him.The deceased was identified as S Selvakumar of Edanganni. Police said Selvakumar was a supplier at a canteen in Virudhachalam railway station. On Saturday, he was returning home after attending an event in Palur. During a vehicle inspection, T Palur police found out that Selvakumar had been driving under the influence of alcohol and a case was registered against him. His two-wheeler was also seized.

His relatives alleged that he was also attacked by the police. Upon returning home, Selvakumar died by suicide. Following this, his relatives protested in front of T Palur police station. Police registered a case and sent the body for autopsy. A police official said, “An argument broke out between the police and Selvakumar regarding the seizure of his two-wheeler, but the police didn’t attack him. After the postmortem, we will take steps.”
