HYDERABAD: The Telangana State government will bring reforms in jails for providing better facilities for prisoners along with ensuring peaceful atmosphere, Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy said. The Minister during his three-hour visit to the Cherlapally Central Jail here said facilities at Tihar Jail and other foreign jails would be studied and efforts made for providing better facilities at both Cherlapally and Chanchalguda Jails. He assured better infrastructure for the jail inmates. “I will make efforts to see that ` 10 crore is sanctioned for procuring better machinery and equipment,” he said and added that efforts would be made for providing an opportunity to the jail inmates to pursue education. He visited the hospital on the jail premises and enquired after the health of the prisoners undergoing treatment. Later, he inspected facilities in the kitchen and expressed his dissatisfaction over the quality of rice and directed the officials concerned to serve better quality rice to the prisoners. He also enquired about the facilities being provided at the barracks where foreign prisoners are being lodged. Later, speaking to mediapersons, he said efforts would be made to bring about a change among the prisoners undergoing life sentence. “Shortly, we will review the cases with higher officials and take a decision with regard to lessening of the punishment,” he said. DG VK Singh, IG Chandrasekhar and other officials were also present.
