Protem Speaker Administers Oath to MLAs

In all 116 out of the 119 MLAs were administered the oath with two members - Akbaruddin Owaisi and Mumtaz Ahamd Khan being absent

HYDERABAD: The maiden session of the first Telagnana Legislative Assembly commenced here on Monday with elected members being administered oath.

K Jana Reddy, who was earlier administered oath as Protem Speaker at Raj Bhavan by governor ESL Narasimhan, presided over the oath-taking ceremony of the elected members to the Legislative Assembly.

At 11 a.m., chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao entered the House and went around wishing elected members starting with Congress senior leader J Geetha Reddy. In a couple of minutes Protem Speaker walked in and the proceedings of the day commenced with the National Anthem.

Oath or Affirmation as required under Article 188 of the Constitution of India and Ad-hoc Rules of Procedure and Conduction of Business in Telangana Legislative Assembly were administered to the members.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was the first to be administered oath followed by his cabinet ministers and MLAs. In All 116 out 119 MLAs were administered the oath. Two members - Akbaruddin Owaisi and Mumtaz Ahamd Khan were absent on the first day of the first session of Telangana Assembly.  After oath taking procedure was over, the House was adjourned till Tuesday.

Camaraderie between the members of all parties was evident inside and outside the House on the inaugural day of the Assembly session. Members were seen congratulating one another with shakehands and warm hugs.

After taking oath as the members of the Legislative Assembly, they were seen greeting the other members including Chief Minister and other ministers.
